Councilmember
Vinita Jethwani
As a 17-year resident and current council member in Metuchen, Vinita and her family (husband Jonathan and 15-year-old daughter Sanya) are proud to call this borough their home. In her role on the council, she serves as a liaison to the Metuchen Public Library, the Metuchen History Advisory Committee, the volunteer Emergency Medical Service (EMS), and the Finance Committee.
For almost 30 years, advancing equity and access has been a common theme in Vinita’s professional and volunteer life, and she has been committed to improving institutions and services. In her role as a council member, she strives to ensure that all residents – including our new neighbors – have opportunities to engage with the borough.
Council Candidate
Chuck Lopez
Chuck Lopez moved to Metuchen in 2014 with his wife, Lauren, and their children, Elie and Jonah. His connection to the borough, however, began much earlier during his high school and college years, when he worked as a lifeguard at the Metuchen municipal pool, forming early ties to the community he would later call home.
Chuck is a band director in the Edison Public Schools, where he has served for 24 years. In addition to his work in music education, he remains an active performing musician and plays saxophone in the Metuchen-based cover band The Commuters.

Traffic & Mobility
Keeping Metuchen moving safely is important to our residents, businesses, and visitors. While recognizing the unique challenges of a busy, walkable downtown community, we will focus on practical solutions to traffic congestion, pedestrian safety, speeding, and parking. We will continue to listen to resident concerns and work with our local, county, and state partners to find solutions that make our streets safer and more accessible for everyone.
Public Safety
Public safety is at the heart of a great community. We want Metuchen to remain a place where residents feel safe, supported, and confident that the Borough is prepared when they need it most. We are committed to providing support to our Police, Fire, and EMS while making long-term investments in emergency preparedness and public safety response.
Taxes
We understand that every dollar matters to Metuchen families. Our goal is to maintain the high-quality services residents expect while continuing to be thoughtful and responsible with municipal finances. We will look for opportunities to improve efficiency and make smart investments that provide lasting value to our community.
Development
Responsible growth can strengthen Metuchen and contribute to a vibrant future for our community and downtown business district. In doing so, we must preserve the character of our neighborhoods and give careful consideration to infrastructure, traffic, parking, and public services.

Every Metuchen resident deserves to feel safe and protected. We are proud that ours is a community where residents can turn to local government and public safety officials with confidence. We will support policies that protect the rights and dignity of all residents, open lines of communication between our residents and local government, and ensure that Metuchen remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
